Olympic and Commonwealth medallist Pete Waterfield won a silver medal at the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) Diving Grand Prix in Germany last Sunday.
Pete beat current Olympic champion, Matt Mitcham, who won the gold medal for Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, in the semi-final and the final of the 10 metre individual platform event.
The 28-year-old, who won the first medal for Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics, explained: “I am delighted with my medal and to have beaten Matt is a great achievement. I also won three gold medals at the British Gas National Cup in Sheffield last month, so I have had a very positive start to 2010.”
“It’s great to know that I can still compete with the best in the world and I am looking forward to competing in the World Cup and Commonwealth Games later this year.”
Pete was awarded a score of 510.20 in the final of the 10 metre individual platform event. He also finished fifth in the 10 metre platform synchronised dive with his partner Max Brick and 12th in the 3 metre synchronised dive with Chris Mears.
