Devon shooter Georgina Geikie has earned Great Britain an extra place in the women’s 25m pistol event at the 2012 Olympics.

Gorgs finished an astonishing 13th from 48 competitors at the European Shooting Championships in Serbia on Sunday to earn the extra quota place for Britain. Gorgs said, ”I’m really, really chuffed with how it went. I wasn’t really expecting to win a quota place, but I’ve been working really hard in training and it’s paid off.”

As host of the 2012 Olympics, Team GB already had one place for the women’s 25m pistol but Geikie’s success means that two British shooters could now compete.

Overall the Championships proved to be successful for the GB team, with Britain’s Richard Faulds winning silver in the double trap event, helping GB to earn team gold.

The European Championships conclude on 14 August, after which Belgrade prepares to welcome the World Championships from 3 September.
