Jade Jones last night landed the prestigious SportingWales Rising Star award at a ceremony in Cardiff.
The teenager from Flintshire has had a remarkable year which culminated in a silver medal at her first senior World Championships last month.
After becoming Britain’s first ever Youth Olympic gold medallist in Singapore last year, the 18-year-old stepped into the senior ranks and stunned the world as she established herself firmly in the latter stages of almost every top competition.
This culminated when the World Championships came around in South Korea. Jade won the silver medal which prompted Great Britain bosses to pick her 57kg weight as one of the Olympic categories.
Team GB are only allowed to enter four Taekwondo athletes into the London Games which include the two female nominations.
Jade is hoping to cement her place at London after the European Championships next May before turning her attention to becoming the first ever British Olympic Taekwondo gold medallist.
